The Amazon rainforest is the largest rainforest on earth covering 2.5 million square miles (6.5 million square km) and includes territory belonging to nine South American nations. 60% of the rainforest is in Brazil, followed by Peru with 13 percent, and then smaller amounts in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana.
